A Demat account is a type of online account linked to the stock market, where you can store your shares and transfer them as well.

To open a Demat account, choose a Depository Participant (DP) like Zerodha, ICICI Direct, or HDFC Securities, complete the KYC process by providing necessary documents, fill out the application form, undergo In-Person Verification (IPV) if required, link your Demat account with a trading account, and once approved, receive your Demat account number (BO ID) to manage your holdings.

Demat account charges vary by broker; discount brokers often waive the account opening fee but may charge a nominal annual maintenance fee (AMC), typically deducted yearly.

Once you have got confirmation that your Demat Account is open, you can start investing as well as trading from your Demat Account.
